The fashion of larger churches strategically searching for young pastors in their mid 30s to early 40s with a wealth of leadership experience seems to be facing serious challenges. According to Church Answers, these institutions have been grappling with an impending pastor shortage for the past few years – a state now considered not just impending, but alarmingly present. The crisis appears more pronounced when the search is specific to those hailing from the millennial stratum born between 1980 and 2000 or even the younger Gen X set born from 1975 – essentially pastors who are still carefully carving out their career paths . There are critical reasons driving this shortage and here are the top five:

1. Pastoral perspective has shown evolution with Millennial pastors not necessarily regarding leadership at bigger churches as a natural progression of their careers. Many amongst them edify that the smaller church they currently serve at potentially mirrors what future American churches will look like.

4.Instances of accumulating deferred maintenance issues makes them wary about investing considerable time dealing with facilities, fundraising concerns and debts.

5.Financial stress related to relocation forms another cogent reason discouraging a move.
