In a recent development, the Governor of Wyoming dismissed a doctor from the state’s board of medicine due to his support for a law prohibiting “gender-affirming care” for minors. The physician is now suing, and his legal team plans to file a motion asking the court to reinstate him on the medical board. In addition, it has been revealed that over 5,000 Wyoming residents have signed a petition requesting the governor to allow him back into his role.

“I was ousted from the Wyoming State Board of Medicine because I took action to safeguard children in our state,” said Dr. Eric Cubin, a radiologist. He is represented by the nonprofit law firm Liberty Justice Center, which is known for its representation of Mark Janus in a notable 2018 Supreme Court case that defended government employees’ First Amendment rights.

Dr. Cubin supported Senate File 99, also known as “Chloe’s Law,” which Governor Mark Gordon signed in March after some reluctance. This law was introduced after Chloe Cole, formerly identified as transgendered and later detransitioned, and prevents doctors from prescribing controversial “transgender” medical interventions — such as puberty blockers or cross-sex hormones — for minors.

Some practitioners have publicly opposed such treatments citing their experimental nature and potential harm. Internally disclosed documents showed even leaders from pro-trans activist groups like WPATH were aware of concerning side effects including cancer and reduced sexual function among teenagers.

While backing Chloe’s Law, Dr. Cubin discovered opposition within the Wyoming Medical Society he belonged to, with one executive director criticizing this stand against ‘transgender care’. To clarify his position supporting Chloe’s Law independently rather than representing his affiliate institutions’ viewpoint; he sent an email which triggered suspicions about impartiality among members.

Governor Gordon explained dismissing Dr.Cubin due to concerns over impartiality within the five-member board when handling sensitive regulations regarding medical practice in Wyoming.

Dr.Cubin’s will bring a legal challenge against Governor Gordon on free speech grounds, alleging his comments do not necessarily represent the views of the state board.

Facing these allegations, Governor Gordon maintained that Dr. Cubin didn’t clearly differentiate between his personal opinions and his role in the Board hence creating confusion about representation.

As per the latest reports, the Liberty Justice Center is taking action to seek an immediate court order to reinstate Dr. Cubin. His term was supposed to expire in 2028. Moreover, Honor Wyoming, a local nonprofit organization, has delivered over 5,300 petitions to Governor Gordon requesting him to reinstate Dr. Cubin.
