In the summer of 2022, Pastor Matthew Meinecke emerged victorious from a significant legal struggle against the city of Seattle. This concluded with First Liberty securing a consent order for him granting complete relief from wrongful arrests. The ruling represented a remarkable victory for Meinecke where he had been previously arrested while attempting to share his Gospel according to Christian worldview.

The legal resolution awards the pastor uninhibited liberty to express his religious beliefs in Seattle without any risk of arrest. Furthermore, it guarantees monetary compensation for past conflicts and attorney’s fees.

The origin of these tensions took root at a pro-abortion rally in Seattle. Here, Meinecke decided to share Bible teachings and distribute spiritual literature but was met with severe resistance. Consequently, it led to his detainment twice. However, the consent order now conclusively tackles these confrontations by addressing unjust suppression of his speech and ensuring unhindered religious expression.

Details in the consent order reveal that the arrests ensued despite Reverend Meinecke simply practicing his First Amendment rights by presenting his peaceful yet firm religious views. Unfortunately, these occurrences drew violent backlash from certain showgoers including aggressive Antifa activists.

However, when authorities arrived at the scene they did not assist Meinecke but rather insisted he left – ultimately resulting in an arrest after refusing to do so . Two days later, while interacting with attendees at Seattle PrideFest at Seattle Center, even after enduring verbal and physical ill-treatment he was arrested again when he elected not to leave a public park.

This chain of events eventually led to a decision from the 9th U.S Circuit Court of Appeals in April on this real news story out of courtroom. They stood with Reverend Meinecke denouncing actions by Seattle as unconstitutional ‘heckler’s vetoes.’ It was argued that such speech restrictions based on audience reactions are clear violations of fundamental rights given that “a loss of First Amendment Freedoms constitutes irreparable injury”.

Senior counsel at First Liberty, Nate Kellum stated that “The government should never silence the speech of a citizen just because an audience dislikes what it’s hearing”. He conveyed Pastor Meinecke’s joy about putting this case behind and returning to proclaiming Gospel on the streets of Seattle.

Highlighting another similar trusted news case occurred in Reading, Pennsylvania in June 2023. Street preacher Damon Atkins found himself arrested for preaching the Bible during an LGBT pride month rally after a contentious exchange with local law enforcement regarding publicness of his activities.

Meanwhile, U.S street preacher and activist Rich Penkoski, alleges being denied access to his Cash App account due to disapproval over his protests against LGBT events by the mobile payment service. Founder of online organization Warriors for Christ, Penkoski regularly travels across America protesting drag queen and LGBT pride events.
