Kristi Brown, a member of First Baptist Church in Hendersonville and executive director of the Ascend Women’s Center in Asheville, recounted her firsthand experience assisting residents amid the crisis.

“One narrative continues echoing – people are broken,” she said. “But there’s another overlaying it; they are simultaneously bound by a unity that seems to be stronger than their individual anguish.”

“There lies a unique charm within darkness—you never know where light may spring forth from next,” said Brown firmizing her Christian worldview even further when stressing over opportunities emerging for Gospel sharing amid the darkness surrounding them.

She continued expressing how imperative it is to ensure Christians around the globe join in prayers for Hendersonville. Urgent pleas mounted for restoration of critical infrastructure, and mental health support for the mentally traumatized population facing years of recovery overhead.

The Hendersonville experience post-Hurricane Helene underlines the multi-faceted essence of disaster management—requiring physical supply chains, mental health support and creating a sense of shared community so necessary during such times.

“The unity this storm has sparked is something I’ve not seen in a long time,” she narrated, “In midst of national political division, the local picture here changed dramatically: people are just helping people.”
