As the situation heats up, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) has lashed out at Democrats, accusing them of directing funds towards Ukraine whilst disregarding what he describes as an “invasion” taking place at the U.S. southern border. This revealing insight arose during an interview conducted over the weekend, focusing itself on legislation pertaining to financial aid for Israel and Ukraine.

Rubio expressed his concern passionately, stating that while he is not against providing assistance where needed – particularly in regard to Israel – he believes that this aid should not come at the expense of issues closer to home. He strongly voiced his opinion that such matters would typically gain swift approval; however, he claimed that support for Israel is being used as a lever to secure aid for Ukraine.

The Senator took the opportunity to explain his position further, stating, “I have the duty of explaining this situation: My allegiance lies with my constituents in Florida and the American people at large because I am a U.S. senator. If America isn’t sturdy and robust, how can we be expected to provide substantial aid to our allies?”

This debate comes under increased scrutiny amidst busy Super Bowl weekend plans, with Rubio unphased by Senate work continuing through it all. However, he reiterated his concern about prioritizing a matter he deems critical – namely addressing issues on the home front including what he labelled as an invasion happening on American soil: their own border.

He labeled accusations of him seeking legislative changes as false, asserting that he merely asked for a reinstatement of the executive orders reversed by the president in January 2021.
