Republicans are reportedly developing a vigorous strategy for the upcoming Congress that could lead to one of the most significant political shifts in recent years, says House Speaker Mike Johnson.

The strategy is built on the anticipated victory of Republicans in the forthcoming November election, which could potentially award them control over the House, Senate, and White House. This would provide them with considerable influence beginning January.

“We’re designing a very aggressive playbook for the legislative agenda in the new Congress,” stated Johnson. He described himself as an optimist, conveying his belief in Republican victory across all chambers, resulting in high energy and excitement.

Currently, Democrats hold a slight advantage in the Senate, largely due to affiliations with several independents. However, Republicans aspire to capture a few seats currently classified as “toss-up” territories as per Cook Political Report’s rankings.

With President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from contention for presidency, Vice President Kamala Harris faces off against former president Donald Trump in what current polls suggest could be a tight race.

In terms of the existing Congress structure, Republicans hold sway over the House but only by a narrow margin. The minimal gap permits even minor defections to jeopardize or dissolve close votes.

Johnson expressed positivity regarding GOP’s chances of retaining their position in the lower chamber but mitigated expectations by suggesting a 35-40 seat majority is impractical due to reductions in swing districts consequent of gerrymandering and redistricting.

Despite this constraint, Johnson remained optimistic about achieving adequate progress towards bolstering Republican majority. As he stated: “Such an edge over Democrats would be very helpful.”

“If we have unified government control,” Johnson continues, “we’re also planning a powerfully focused first 100-day agenda for Congress.”

Johnson highlighted his discussion with colleagues and Trump regarding having the potential for being one of ‘the most consequential presidencies and Congresses’ if they secure these victories given how much there is to rectify.
