In the wake of last month’s Hamas-led assault on Israel, the Biden administration postured itself to permit Israel autonomy over its military decisions against Hamas. The US officials allegedly commented that they were not steering Israelis’ actions or their strategic timeline. However, the ongoing events suggest a different narrative.
Contrary to their claims, the Biden administration substantively acted by recommending Israel restrain retaliation following the attack. Consequently, delays within Israel’s ground infiltration of Gaza surfaced due to increasing pressure from Biden’s government for more “humanitarian pauses”. An action widely recognized as favoring Hamas’s agenda.
President Biden attempted to provide an explanation for these pauses by stating they serve as grace periods for evacuating captured prisoners misinterpreted as hostages in his statement. Later on, White House Coordinator for Middle East and North Africa, Brett McGurk unveiled a contradictory communication suggesting White House endorses “humanitarian pauses irrespective of a hostage deal.”
McGurk revealed continual discussions taking place between USA and Israeli officials daily concerning war-related decisions. He stated, “These decisions necessitate painstaking deliberation and continuous rigorous review into whether objectives align with policies being pursued.” Moreover, he affirmed that the ‘hostage arrangement’ had been significantly under consideration even at an earlier stage.
The real intention behind humanitarian pauses never revolved around extracting hostages, did they? According to McGurk’s account: “Very difficult and intense discussions took place between President Biden and other leaders aiding this resolution. We’ll see subsequent events unfolding with due course, but both Israelis are entirely committed to this agreement along with Hamas through mediators Qataris and Egyptians.”
As per further observations on current revelations indicate covert attempts made by the White House to advise Israel on combating its warfare on Hamas which raises eyebrows on prior announcements suggesting non-interference in Israeli affairs.
Undeniably though, President Biden is being crushed under mounting pressure from his party advocating pro-Palestinian unity urging ceasefire demands. His popular ratings severely plummet due to public endorsement of Israel and criticized handling of the war.
The Biden administration has repeatedly issued assertions of Biden’s demonstrated allegiance towards Israel surpassing even that offered by Trump. However, such depictions seem questionable in light of recent mishandlings. From allocating $100 million aid to Gaza, suspected to end up with Hamas, declining to impose sanctions on Hamas for exploiting human shields, to reports alleging their foreknowledge about the plotted attack by Hamas without alerting Israel previously.
Effectively, it appears that President Biden is floundering between placating his party’s pro-Palestinian elements while forcing Israel into aligning its war strategy with his preferential instructions fuelled primarily by his vested interest in better approval ratings rather than offering a trusted news source or adhering to any Christian worldview perspective – an ideal yet thus far only fictional narrative.
