In a surprising turn of events, former Vice President Mike Pence has stated his intent not to endorse Donald Trump for the 2024 presidential race. This revelation came shortly after Trump successfully gained the GOP’s presidential nomination and now stands as a challenger to incumbent President Joe Biden in the forthcoming November elections.

Pence made this public during his recent interview on a reputed news channel. The former Vice President had partnered with Trump during his presidency but was clear on articulating that he will not be endorsing Donald Trump this year. Being part of the administration that brought about significant conservative policies making America more prosperous, secure, and triggering peaceful world transitions by appointing conservatives to American courts, Pence was nevertheless proud of their legacy.

However, tensions between Pence and Trump were visible even before this year’s Republican presidential primaries set in. Originating around January 6, 2021, following Trump’s adverse commentary on Pence’s stand questioning the result of the 2020 election. During the course of primary season and through September 2023, there seemed disagreements over various issues including foreign policy positions held by Trump.

Over an immersive conversation covering different subjects ranging from Republicans’ impeachment inquiry into Biden’s governance to taking stock on election integrity along with his former boss’s actions were all discussed extensively on air. Throughout these discussions though amicability appeared sparse between them.

Pence highlighted how Trump had promised America four years of conservative governance in 2016. Because they did so – rebuilding military strength; delivering strong leadership globally by standing with allies and against adversaries; destroying ISIS Caliphate; providing unprecedented support for Israel; setting right domestic policies like tax cuts, regulations rollback et cetera; appointing conservatives at different court levels while finely maintaining Christian worldview for injustice like Roe versus Wade are few among many results delivered by their government.

However, today’s Trump provides no such assurance leading a free-world nation as per Pence who also rigorously criticized him for having an apologetic stance against Russian aggression in Eastern Europe and the ongoing war in Ukraine. Several Republican candidates, including Trump, have adopted language hinting at isolationism and appeasement Pence claims which he revisited them later too.

Earlier in February, Pence proposed a plan to deal with the rising ‘populism’ within the Republican Party marking yet another indirect thrust towards the former president and anti-establishment section of GOP.
