As we observe another Memorial Day weekend, it’s critical to take a moment to remember the fearless individuals who surrendered their lives in service to the country. Many of us use this day as a time of reflection and conveyance of quotes from celebrated political figures. However, this Memorial Day, I took another direction and pondered on the state of the nation that these heroes died protecting.

It is undeniable fact that America is currently treading through turbulent waters. The country will soon be celebrating its 245th year since inception, during which it has experienced an array of challenges; desde its challenging birth through our bloody civil war up to the Vietnam era.

The Vietnam conflict was a noteworthy period when Americans were offered an unprecedented nightly glimpse into global events. Polarizing political divisions surfaced dramatically during this time, resulting in even a sitting U.S president being compelled to resign to prevent forcible eviction from office.

Fast forwarding to current times makes it evident that our nation seems more disordered than back in those times of major upheaval. In today’s world, social media platforms significantly dictate news coverage and its distribution process – contributing immensely towards instigating societal disputes and discord.

However amidst all the gloominess, there are sparkles of optimism even as we commemorate this solemn holiday. For instance, citizens are growing increasingly frustrated with President Joe Biden’s regime due to his perceived incompetency and alleged corruption – a sentiment that could significantly influence future elections.

Some Democrats are already starting to distance themselves from Biden’s shortcomings while others view them as obvious weaknesses within Republican opposition ranks. This detachment could potentially revamp Michigan politics where Democratic frontrunner Rep Elissa Slotkin is only barely leading against Republican Mike Rogers in early polls for an undecided Senate seat.

Biden’s unpopularity has apparently also tilted voter preference towards GOP candidate Sandy Pensler over Democrat Slotkin despite her assumed popularity among Michigan residents. These changing political trends suggest voter readiness for novel policy initiation over Biden’s current incompetency.

We ought to focus on utilizing this unique opportunity presented by Joe Biden’s administration as we observe Memorial Day. Let us remember those who chose unfathomable sacrifices for this country and elect representatives committed to reversing the dire consequences of the past few years.
