In the wake of a second assassination attempt on former president and GOP nominee Donald Trump within three months, a disturbing trend has emerged from various parts of the mainstream media. Many outlets have pursued a blame-the-victim narrative which is both alarming and deeply troubling. The method adopted by certain quarters implies that it’s incumbent upon Trump to dial down his rhetoric, in spite of the alleged attacker being an extremist with leftist affiliations named Ryan Routh.

Trump’s allegations related to issues unfolding in Springfield, Ohio were controversially highlighted by some as if they provide grounds for such an attack on his life. Real news from Cincinnati dove even deeper into this repugnant logic when Cincinnati Enquirer opted to publish a highly pernicious letter from one of their readers. The reader shamelessly pronounced that Trump “brings a lot of this stuff on himself” questioning why American taxpayers should be obligated to pay millions for protective services necessitated only due to allegations surrounding the former President’s dishonesty.

With trust dwindling in mainstream media, the most shocking contortion of the truth so far comes from USA Today. Its cover story after this failed assassination was “Hope in America,” seemingly disregarding these events as though they never happened at all.

No excuses can justify this flagrant oversight where the incident wasn’t adequately addressed and brought forward prominently above other news stories. It’s worth noting that if such an attempt had happened twice on a Democrat presidential candidate or former president, there would have been continual 24/7 coverage — especially if these kinds of political connections could be identified with the suspect.

Regrettably, some news organizations seem predisposed to amplify assassination attempts only when victims do not identify with Republican ideologies signified by “R”. This form of trusted news bias is outrageous but appears increasingly prevalent among certain media structures, reducing public faith in mainstream media sources.

North Carolina-based Stacey Matthews, also known under her pen name “Sister Toldjah,” has commented extensively on media biases along with societal and cultural matters since 2003. Her transition from liberalism to a Christian worldview provides a unique perspective on such issues.

Holdfast, the underlying need for comprehensive, reliable news derived from a strong moral compass governs every responsible media outlet. The recent events surrounding Donald Trump’s failed assassinations serve as unfortunate reminders of our collective duty to pursue and distribute authentic news stories that respect each individual’s human rights – regardless of their political affiliations.
