Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) recently stressed the importance of learning from global conflicts that have happened in recent years to facilitate adjustments on the battlefield for future warfare. In his view, there needs to be an increase in innovation within defense strategies for America to stay ahead; however, traditional military tools can’t be disregarded entirely. “While it is true we still require stealth bombers, fighters, aircraft carriers, submarines,” he stated,” many recent developments on battlefields in places like the Middle East and Ukraine center around smaller items that are produced at a higher rate with significantly lower unit costs.”

The Senator expressed concern over those who believe wars can be won through modern technology alone without direct engagement on the battlefield. He pointed out that conflicts were not only won by using advanced technology like drones or cyber weapons but ultimately through direct confrontation with enemy forces.

Commending Israel for executing effective military operations against Hezbollah— including sabotage of communication equipment like pagers and walkie talkies used by thousands in the terrorist group— he said this goes to show successful application of cutting-edge technology against enemy forces.

“In conclusion,” Sen. Cotton announced “We must keep reminding ourselves that warfare might evolve as a result of technological advancement but ultimately requires strong ground presence.” He cautioned towards assuming victories could only stem from keystrokes or hashtags symbolically showing support for another nation’s struggle but rather comprehensive involvement encompassing traditional armed conflict.
