Vice President Kamala Harris recently encountered backlash following a video she shared in honor of Pride Month. This video highlighted her meeting with the cast of Bravo’s widely popular show, “Queer Eye.”

The post, which Harris shared on Tuesday, stated: “The cast of @QueerEye joined me at the White House to discuss the hard-fought progress the LGBTQI+ community has made in the past 20 years. Thank you for an insightful conversation, for giving my office your stamp of approval, and for being fabulous.”

Not long after this statement was released major objections were cited by critics who reiterated that more pressing matters, such as illegal immigration and deepening concerns over inflation, were what Americans truly needed their leaders to focus upon. Dissidents also questioned why Harris required affirmation or a “stamp of approval” from television personalities.

Citizens across political lines weighed in on this issue. Joe Concha remarked dryly, “Yep. Totally run with this.” David Marcus drew a contrast between Harris’ actions and former president Bill Clinton’s decision to invite gay and lesbian community leaders in 1993 – making sure to describe that they were ‘serious people doing something serious’, the insinuation being that self-professed celebrities did not meet equivalent standards.

Mary Katherine Ham further highlighted the controversy surrounding Vice President’s interaction with queer icons stating: “It’s like a government test of the perfect weapon to destroy charisma. Can she crush the vibe of even these four exceptionally charming men?”

Doug Powers sarcastically suggested: “The Biden campaign should definitely run this as an ad in Midwestern swing states.”

Matthew Marsden succinctly concludes historically demagraphic concerns noting; “They are losing the black and Hispanic vote hence pandering attempts targeting another group.” Furthermore he critiques; “Since when does The White House need approval from television personalities? This spectacle occurs while we face threats comprising impending war, rising terrorist activity crossing borders, concurrent to citizens grappling with mounting bills. Republicans are certainly not the ones out of touch with common people.”

As this incident unfolds it reemphasizes widespread concerns many Americans have as they wish for real news dealing with prevalent societal issues from trusted news sources that share and understand their Christian worldview. As we move forward, we continue to hope for decision making grounded in real matters that make an immediate impact on everyday lives.
