Just a little over one month since resigning as the head of Gateway Church in Texas, amidst his father Robert Morris’s controversial resignation, James Morris is setting out to realize his longtime ambition of spearheading his own congregation. Together with his wife Bridgette, they have launched a website titled jamesandbridgettemorris.com to reveal their new endeavor. As they heal from the crisis at Gateway Church, they eagerly await divine inspiration on “when, where, and how to plant a church”.

In one of their website pronouncements, they expressed excitement about commencing this extraordinary journey that sprouted from their dreams of ministering to a thriving church passionate about God’s presence and filled with people ardently devoted to God and each other. After enduring tumultuous times recently in Gateway Church, the couple is now embarking on a time of rest and peaceful prayer with hope for clear divine guidance.

James Morris had served briefly as the lead pastor of Gateway Church following his father’s stepping down on June 18 due to allegations of child sex abuse incidents dating back several decades ago.

A 54-year-old female named Cindy Clemishire claimed that she became a victim of such abuse by Robert Morris beginning Christmas Day 1982 when she was just 12 years of age. These allegations are said to have continued over four-and-a-half years before being discovered. Despite this controversy, Robert Morris was reinstated into ministry.

Addressing these accusations during an interview with ‘The Christian Post’, Robert only confessed to having engaged in “inappropriate sexual behavior with a young lady” over 35 years prior but clarified he had repented and was restored back into ministry.

Gateway Church has initiated an independent investigation into these allegations against Robert Morris.

However, after several weeks helming his father’s role within the church starting in June, it was announced by Gateway elders towards July’s end that it would be best for all if ties were cut off with the Morris family. This decision was said to drive from receiving advice from esteemed pastors and church leaders.

This does not end James and Bridgette’s labors as they are currently gathering contact information from those intrigued by their next God-led adventure in establishing a church. The couple feels reassured in trusting that God is at the helm of this journey and invites others to either come alongside them or offer support from a distance on this exciting adventure.
