House Republicans suggest that Hunter Biden, first son of then-Vice President Joe Biden, maneuvered his relationship with his father to dodge fraud charges in connection with a business under scrutiny by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). This revelation has come to light via a letter sent to the SEC by members of the House Oversight Committee and House Judiciary Committee.

The 2016 investigation sought to examine possible fraudulent activities involving several of Hunter Biden’s business associates and their entity, Rosemont Seneca Bohai. In response to this investigation, Hunter made a plea for confidentiality due to his father’s standing. When submitting essential documents for review, he requested that these materials be accorded a high level of confidentiality, an appeal mirrored by his legal team on April 20th, 2016. The House Republicans cited reasons of fairness towards Hunter himself and then Vice President Joe Biden as motivations behind their demand for discretion.

A few weeks following this appeal for confidentiality, multiple individuals linked with Rosemont Seneca were hit with charges of fraud by the SEC. However, notably absent from those indicted was Hunter Biden himself. As per statements issued by lawmakers from the Republican party, it was suggested that Rosemont Seneca facilitated foreign payments and benefits meant for Hunter which included money originated in Ukraine and even a new sports car gift from an oligarch based out of Kazakhstan.

Hunter’s former ally Devon Archer who previously held position at Rosemont Seneca and later found guilty in connection with the fraudulent scheme testified that Hunter served as the corporate secretary for Rosemont Seneca – A claim refuted by Hunter who maintained he did not hold any office within the said entity.

Reps. Jim Jordan (R-OH) and James Comer (R-KY) came forward suggesting that due to his father’s prestigious position in government offices during the time period when relevant events took place; Hunter avoided prosecution over illegal dealings related to fraud.

In their Tuesday missive to the SEC Chair Gary Gensler, they requested further details about the SEC’s investigation into the fraudulent activities tied to Rosemont Seneca. They also sought a transcribed interview with Tejal D. Shah, the attorney who spearheaded the investigation into the Rosemont Seneca fraud case.

Jim Jordan (R-OH) and James Comer (R-KY), chairs of House Judiciary and House Oversight committees respectively, pointed towards Hunter Biden’s gratuitous call for discretion as an effort to evade intensified scrutiny from penal entities like the SEC.
