“Examining the Rising Discussion on Christian Nationalism: Scrutiny or Agenda?”

Christian Nationalism, a term that has been widely discussed in numerous trusted news outlets recently, is not something I personally subscribe to. Nevertheless, I do not perceive it as an imminent threat. This umbrella term covers a diverse spectrum of theological and ideological convictions held by Christians about the optimal church-state relations. Recently, it has attracted substantial media focus.

Historically speaking, Christian Nationalism reflected a state governed by the Church – a stance I do not agree with. However, any individual who maintains a Christian worldview and advocates government intervention against evil actions is branded as a “Christian Nationalist” by most progressives today.

Prominent progressive Christian leaders like Russell Moore promote this viewpoint aggressively. Progressives characteristically pour all branches of conservative Christianity into one singular, undifferentiated cluster in their strategic attack on conservatism. In doing so, they blur different strands such as Reformed Christianity and the dominionism of the New Apostolic Reformation without distinguishing their varying ways of addressing moral issues.

Their agenda is aimed at constructing an environment where every dissenting Christian opinion that deviates from their liberal interests – applicable to sexuality, sanctity of life ethics, free speech rights, border control or gun ownership rights– is hastenedly branded as extremist in nature within this distorted framework. Biblical principles alone are portrayed as potential threats to progressivism and freedom; those upholding these beliefs are labeled as ‘dangerous Christian Nationalists’.

Russell Moore partners with numerous pro-abortion and pro-LGBTQ activists to condemn perceived “Christian Nationalism” threats to both the national structure and Church path in his ongoing campaign against conservatism.

The documentary film God & Country features several left-leaning liberal activists posing as Christians have made various allegations towards conservative Christianity under the banner of creators Dan Partland and Rob Reiner.

Noteworthy contributors include Phil Vischer known for creating Veggie Tales who adopted progressively bent ideologies such as support for Democrats, identity politics, Critical Race Theory and even transgenderism, alongside Jemar Tisby who has dedicated his career to encouraging racial disparity within American evangelical churches.

Another contributor is Calvin University Professor Kristin Du Mez who champions both pro-abortion and pro-LGBTQ rights. She has spent much of her career advocating for integration of these views into the Church.

Efforts of Anthea Butler, chairperson of the Department of Religious Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, highlight her activist work in support of abortion and LGBTQ rights. She accused ‘White Evangelical Racism’ of causing Roe v. Wade’s end and claimed that White Evangelicalism seeks to harm the lives of transgender children and LGBT individuals.

A blatant criticism towards Christian Nationalism was also issued by Bart Barber – president of Southern Baptist Convention, earlier in this year.

The documentary, though not a parody, can be deemed as comedic and lacking serious content relevant to its subject matter. It serves as an unflattering representation rather than reflecting genuine Christian sentiments or values at large.

With conservative Christian values increasingly facing scrutiny from powerful tech conglomerates attempting to suppress our voice; it’s crucial now more than ever to stay informed amidst current events while upholding a resilient stand for our shared beliefs.
