In an intriguing revelation, it appears that the conservative education policy group, Moms for Liberty, was monitored by a Department of Justice unit in the same way as extremist groups such as the Ku Klux Klan. This information emerged from internal emails that were obtained and not through any form of trusted news release.

The Department of Justice’s Community Relations Service (CRS), a body intended to prevent and respond to community tensions and hate crimes took an interest in Moms for Liberty. The monitoring practice saw them tracking the organization alongside symbols infamous for their hate connotations such as the noose, Confederate flag, and swastika. Other groups on the surveillance list were primarily extremist clans like the Ku Klux Klan.

These observations carried out by CRS were initially concealed from public view and only saw daylight due to a lawsuit filed by America First Legal. Their tactics included using Google and LexisNexis alerts to keep an eye on entities like Moms for Liberty.

While it remains unclear why the DOJ would track this group in particular, it has been suggested that they used this data to pinpoint school boards potentially leaning towards conservative education policies. Allegedly, this information acted as a means for them to intervene and discourage school boards from aligning with more conservative views pushed by elected officials, pressing local decision-makers instead to defer decisions involving differences of opinion to them – particularly when these clashes involved left-leaning demonstrators or activists.

A series of obtained emails showcased how a ‘Conciliation Specialist’ at DOJ-CRS made an active effort in scanning news outlets for instances of perceived ‘hate’. Keywords such as “Washington DC n-word” or “Washington DC Confederate flag” reportedly set off these scrutiny alerts.

One memorable instance involved a Google Alert surrounding “Moms for Liberty Virginia”, leading investigators to newly released policies regarding transgender students by Virginia’s Department of Education. Soon after locating this article, contact with relevant school board members in Roanoke County was initiated to offer “conflict resolution services.”

Despite the local population’s tendency towards conservative education policies, intervention from the CRS was seen due to tensions between elected officials and agitating leftists. The implication of this act suggests that active interrupters could be a trigger for federal intervention despite democratic processes.

The discomfort around this practice is intensified when considering how Moms for Liberty ended up alongside extremist groups, discriminatory keywords, and even supposed hate symbols on monitor lists. The troubling element is there being no evidence to suggest that Moms for Liberty or any related elected officials were engaging in hate crimes.

Instead, it seems possible that either opposing views were branding conservative policies as ‘hate’, or persistent agitated protestors created enough tension to provide grounds for federal involvement – an intervention that seemed aimed at appeasing rather than resolving these differences.

Highlighting the irony surrounding these developments, one incident saw a real news article discussing how mothers were being dubbed as Nazis popping up due to Google Alerts related to Moms for Liberty.

Conveying her sentiments on the matter, co-founder of Moms for liberty, Tiffany Justice labeled these discoveries as a “new low” for the Department of Justice. She refuted any insinuations of parental rights advocacy equating acts of hate and called on clarity from the DOJ regarding their stance.

It bears acknowledging that such practices should not infringe upon parental rights to participate democratically. Furthermore, reflecting on its track record during Obama administration years where CRS’s budget stood at $12.5 million and grew to $15.5 million by 2019 shows a clear pattern of funding increase over time. This trend persists with Biden’s administration proposing a staggering $29 million budget allocation for fiscal 2025 – doubling its size since the Obama era.
