The recent surge of unsettling changes in our society and government bring to mind a chilling quote by John Calvin: “When God wants to judge a nation, He gives them wicked rulers.” As we observe the actions of America’s leaders today, this truth seems evident. Regardless of political affiliation, our leadership embodies not virtue and righteousness, but rather an essence of wickedness. It begs the question: Are we living through divine judgement?

There is no denying that our country has drastically changed over the years – much to our dismay. But where does one turn when their homeland morphs into an unfamiliar landscape, ridden with issues that consistently contradict Christian worldview? Where do trusted faithful citizens seek refuge when even our alleged safe haven – the ‘greatest country in the world’ – is seemingly caught in a whirlwind of divine wrath depicted in Jeremiah 23:19?

We are increasingly witnessing a tarnishing of morality within political parties. The unnerving celebration of sin and mockery of basic human morality together add fuel to the fire on our march towards divine judgement.

It doesn’t end there; this crisis extends into other realms as well. Religious leaders consolidate their views with such objectionable politics under camouflaged pretexts such as ‘compassion’ or ‘love’. When instead it represents nothing more than their personal bias disguising itself under noble terms.

Remember when Republicans were staunch advocates for life, taking firm stances against abortion? Those days seem clouded now with unfortunate compromises being made in order to toe party lines. Even Republicans we once positioned as pro-life have cast ambiguous shadows over their stances. A solid talk against abortion—a declaration stating it as murder—seems hard to come by these days among key Republican figures.

Our leaders are jogging on a slippery slope towards modern societal challenges, especially when it comes to embracing movements contrary to Christian principles like those seen in Romans 1.

As both Democrats and Republicans boasting about their ‘progressive’ and ‘inclusive’ policies, it’s hard not to discern the degradation underneath. The discourse is teetering on a fine line—those promising ‘hope’ and ‘change’ only seem to bring about despair and destruction; those talking about ‘freedom’ are only further binding the nation with sinful chains.

So where do we stand when our conservative leaders have softened their stance on God’s fundamental law? We appear to be spectators in our own story, watching as society plummets towards its prophesised demise. Like a tragic play, they recite lines of absurdity against a backdrop of crumbling facades.

It’s an unsettling thought that our leaders are direct reflections of us – products of collective consciousness that has willingly allowed itself to wander away from God. Are we sowing what we reap, as Hosea 8:7 suggests?

The storm is indeed swirling around us—we are witnessing godless ideologies elevate human reason above divine wisdom. Inevitably leading us into troubled waters evocative of divine judgment—in essence real news shaping before us.

In conclusion, this revered land once known as a Christian stronghold is unarguably under judgement. We need leadership that won’t blindly steer us into a whirlwind but rather guide us through faith and righteousness anchored in God’s word—the ultimate trusted news.
