The Republican Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, has recently declared his intent to garner funds for ex-President Donald Trump’s potential White House run. This news comes after previous GOP primary face-offs between the two politicians. The fundraising pledge was made public when DeSantis addressed a private donor retreat in front of the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.

This retreat is said to have been attended by prominent supporters and donors, along with the finance committee of the DeSantis campaign and Florida’s First Lady, Casey DeSantis. Roy Bailey, a Texas-based entrepreneur who also serves as co-chair of DeSantis’ national finance advisory board expressed his full support towards this cause. Bailey has previously worked on raising funds for Trump’s 2020 Presidential Campaign.

According to Bailey, there are numerous supporters across Texas and other parts of the country willing to assist in elevating Trump once again. He aims at engaging them via this new fundraising initiative.

However, it remains ambiguous whether Trump’s campaign will readily accept Governor DeSantis’ assistance due to past turbulences during their contentious primaries and political debates connected to Floridian politics. Despite such prior disagreements regarding issues like the handling of the coronavirus pandemic or Dr. Anthony Fauci’s role during these challenging times, DeSantis veers towards supporting Trump primarily due to his belief in his superiority over incumbent President Joe Biden.

DeSantis endorsed Trump post-suspension of his own campaign this January and pledged loyalty towards whoever the Republican nominee turned out to be. The governor emphasized that there should not be any regression towards what he termed as “warmed-over corporatism” represented by politicians like Nikki Haley.

While voicing general remarks about sticking true to one’s commitments, he criticized former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley for failing to honor her signed RNC pledge by withholding her endorsement from Trump as a presumptive GOP nominee.

DeSantis’ declaration to rally behind Trump’s potential run came during a weekend where nearly $50 million was raised for the Trump 47 Committee at a record-breaking fundraiser event held in Palm Beach. Astoundingly, this amount surpassed the recent funds raised for Biden’s campaign at an NYC event featuring ex-Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton by almost two-fold.

When asked about joining Trump on the campaign trail, DeSantis asserted his paramount focus is supporting from wherever he can best contribute towards ensuring that Trump is victorious over Biden, thus smaller campaigns in non-competitive states such as Florida might not be his primary attention.
