How many hours has it been since Kamala elected Minnesota’s Governor Tim Walz as her vice presidential nominee? Barely a day and already his selection is causing a stir, besieged by allegations of false claims. Accusations ranging from dodging deployment to Iraq, misuse of military honors (also known as stolen valor) to fabricating reports about his service are now on the table. As per our previous coverage, Governor Walz supposedly hinted at having seen active warfare, with one particular statement drawing substantial attention where he mentions “those weapons of war that I carried in war.” This statement was highlighted by Kamala’s team but was quickly debunked as untrue.

Walz claimed “I spent 25 years in the Army and I hunt,” proposing improvements such as background checks and exploring the repercussions of gun violence while preserving Second Amendment protections. However, intensive scrutiny has revealed inconsistencies in this narrative, sparking noteworthy backlash. Now, even major media outlets are dissecting this contentious declaration made by Governor Walz.

For instance, Jim LaPorta, working for CBS as verification producer, refuted Walz’s claim about carrying weapons during wartime. He maintained that Walz had slight inaccuracies regarding his duration in the army – 24 years versus the stated 25 years- but more seriously alleged that nobody stationed in Italy like Walz was armed for combat purposes during Operation Enduring Freedom in 2003.

CNN similarly collapsed this assertion by investigating how Governor Walz might have suggested bearing arms under direct enemy fire. By distinguishing between serving within a combat zone versus being involved in actual conflict situations or hostile engagements possibly involving return fire circumstances, CNN correspondent Tom Foreman confirmed that these scenarios never applied to Governor Walz who was neither positioned within Iraq nor any reportable combat situation.

This undesirable response raises eyebrows over Kamala’s choice and Eric Holder’s oversight role during her selection process. The backlash from those intimately familiar with the governor’s military service suggests a severe lapse in candidate vetting. Embarrassingly, these allegations were exaggerated further when Kamala’s team reiterated Walz’s original claims.

Considering this was Kamala’s critical first step in assuming her VP role and it stirred such sensitivity, it raises concerns over her judgment capabilities. Understandably, many have felt strongly about the term “stolen valor,” creating quite the buzz around this issue.
