Debra Mae Carter, the accomplice to the infamous Texas radio personality William Neil “Doc” Gallagher, confessed to her crimes before receiving her sentencing Tuesday. She was initially declared guilty of money laundering on July 8 after enduring a two-week trial by jury.

Gallagher, the former CEO of Gallagher Financial Group who dubbbed himself as “Money Doctor,” had established a notorious presence within Christian communities due to his financial advice. However, authorities discovered he was harboring clandestine illicit activities behind that façade—crimes that add three life sentences and another 30 years in imprisonment to his name since November 1, 2021.

They preyed mainly on older adults who were easily swayed by their outwardly-sincere Christian perspectives.

Their tactics for promoting this fraudulent investment business included visits to churches and clamorous promotion on Christian radio stations owned by Salem Media, with Gallagher even authoring books such as Jesus Christ, Money Master. While Gallagher’s primary role revolved around contributing finances into this scheme from unsuspecting parties,Carter ensured those funds remained untraceable.

Tarrant County Assistant District Attorneys Lori Varnell, Nathan Martin and Anastasia Frane underscored how both Carter and Gallagher ruthlessly victimized their unsuspecting victims who entrusted them with hard-earned retirement savings. “’Doc’ Gallagher is one of the worst offenders I have seen,” expressed Varnell in relation to his sentencing last year.

Carter’s laundering involved intricate diversification of assets, including rental properties, vacant lands, and fabricated charities. Authorities also seized approximately $200,000 worth of gold and silver discovered in her possession.
