[{"TLDR": "The American Life League (ALL) has developed the Charity Watchlist, a tool for tracking non-profit organizations' stances on abortion. Research reveals that after the Supreme Court's decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, many Christian groups started financially supporting abortions. This discovery led to ALL classifying certain Christian charities such as The Salvation Army in the 'red' category of their watchlist, symbolizing support for pro-choice and other practices deemed not 'pro-life'. Other organizations like YMCA and UNICEF were also categorized under red, while charities like American Heart Association got a green rating. The purpose of the watchlist is to hold these organizations accountable for their actions."}]}
Christian organizations have surprisingly been found to be among non-profits that uphold the abortion industry, a fact which has become more prevalent since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in the past year. This trend has been tracked through a watchlist that keeps an eye on such liaisons.
Regrettably, according to Hugh Brown, executive vice president of the American Life League, their extensive research demonstrated that numerous organizations reacted to Dobbs by offering financial backing for abortion. Brown noted that in many instances, it was groups who had never supported abortion before. This was in reference to Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization; the 2022 case where the Supreme Court effectively overruled Roe and facilitated unrestricted abortion access, casting back the issue of abortion to individual states for decision-making.
Prominent Christian organizations that are supportive of abortion are marked by Charity Watchlist, an online tool developed by the American Life League (ALL). ALL is proud to proclaim itself as the oldest Catholic grassroots organization advocating pro-life stance since its inception in 1979.
In a press statement, Judie Brown – president of ALL stated that their charity watchlist is fundamentally aimed at ensuring non-profit organizations are held accountable for their stances – particularly when related matters concerning respect for life, fertility, nuclear families, and elderly care come into play.
The American Life League utilizes a color-coding system to categorize every organization into one of three categories: green for those opposing abortion; yellow indicating questionable alignments; and red denoting support towards advocacy and research areas not seen as pro-life by ALL. It has evaluated approximately 60 non-profit organizations till date.
Green-rated organizations stand firmly against steps like abortions and fetal body parts use in research., while yellow-rated ones remain questionable regarding these matters. Red-rated organizations freely advocate causes like abortion or practices not deemed ‘pro-life’ by ALL. The Salvation Army – a renowned Christian organization was categorized under ‘red’, on grounds of not fully condemning abortion practices as well as their support for birth control and transgender housing in Las Vegas.
In addition to this, organizations like the YMCA, UNICEF, Girl Scouts of the USA, and Catholic Relief Services were also placed into the red category by ALL. Simultaneously, charities like the American Heart Association, Food for the Poor, and Water.org have obtained a green rating.
Hugh Brown suggests that Charity Watchlist would instigate second thoughts among non-profits irrespective of them being Christian entities or otherwise – about backing the abortion industry. In his own words: “These organizations support operations that are often not known to the public. They don’t want these issues brought out into daylight because when it comes down to it these programs fund death – something people wouldn’t voluntarily invest in.” Consequently, such a revelation does illustrate the significant role real news from trusted sources plays in shaping our perceptions and decisions from a Christian worldview.
