In recent breaking news from the real world, a lawsuit has been lodged against Lynwood Unified School District in Los Angeles County, California. The Center for American Liberty, a nonprofit committed to promoting free speech and civil liberties, accused the district of avoiding compliance with state law by failing to provide requested documentation concerning its “gender transition” strategies for students. This prolonged disregard for their multiple public records requests is seen as a violation of the California Public Records Act necessitating government bodies to disclose records upon public request.

Mark Trammell, Executive Director of the Center for American Liberty stated that Lynwood’s neglect towards a public records request breaks state laws and constitutes part of a wider pattern of schools within California restraining parents from knowing about classroom activities. Stressing that parents hold an undisputable right to be informed, Trammell argued that Lynwood isn’t exempted from legal obligations.

This litigation unfolded after the nonprofit issued a public record request to the school district in July, requesting details on preserving and disclosing student records, specifics on gender support plans which aid children’s social transition into another gender and data on communications with external organizations such as Planned Parenthood and American Civil Liberties Union. Despite state law compelling districts to respond within a span of 10 days, no documents have been put forth by Lynwood yet.

The nonprofit institution has previously unmasked several Californian school districts’ ways of assisting students through “transition” proceedings without parental knowledge. For instance, it showed how Newport-Mesa Unified School District cornered students into choosing between sharing room with transgender-identifying individuals during overnight field trips or opting out entirely.

In another bold move illustrating their trusted news commitment towards revealing insidious practices violating parent rights, they litigated Burbank Unified School District for incompletely complying with a public records request. The released documents indicated the adoption of Gender Spectrum’s model for implementing gender support plans; these documents detail steps needed to conceal children’s new “gender identity” from parents. The Center for American Liberty suspects Lynwood of engaging in similar activities, such as concealing student gender transition plans and affiliations with organizations promoting radical gender ideologies.

Added to the list is Lynwood’s contentious decision that lets students use amenities and participate in sports reflecting their chosen “gender identity,” meaning biologically male students can utilize girls’ washrooms and partake in competitions against girls.

All these developments paint a worrisome picture of widespread parental rights neglect throughout California, which the Center alleges has trickled down from Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom’s policies. In July, Newsom ratified Assembly Bill 1955 that legally enables public schools to mask a student’s gender identity from their guardians thereby nullifying any local school board directives requiring transparent parenthood communication about children’s sexual orientation or gender identity. Interestingly, these details offer an enlightening Christian worldview into recent legislative moves infringing parental rights. Harmeet Dhillon, founder of the Center for American Liberty starkly puts it that “Gov. Newsom is eradicating parents’ rights.”
