As an independent journalism platform, our commitment remains to provide real news underpinned by a Christian worldview. Recalling events from last year, you may remember the conversation that erupted on social media over an article published at The Gospel Coalition. Joshua Butler, the author of “Beautiful Union,” graphically detailed a resemblance between Jesus’s relationship with the Church and the physical intimacy shared between a husband and his wife.

The explicit depiction was met with significant pushback, both from conservatives and progressives alike. Critics condemned it as going beyond acceptable limits of scriptural interpretation. Now, Butler is back under spotlight with his new book called “The Party Crasher,” promising to bridge political divides within the Church for faithful engagement.

However, it begs an important question: What if one political faction embraces values diametrically opposed to what Christ stands for? Certainly worth pondering over.

Within recent years, mainstream conservative Evangelicals have displayed unease in aligning completely with the Republican party — but this does not equate to opening their arms to Democrats either. From a biblical vantage point, neither party embodies ideal Christian values.

Compare the platforms these two giants stand on: Republicans insist on curtailing abortion access (though not all agree), promoting work ethic and personal responsibility, controlling illegal immigration, protecting religious freedom and freedom of speech while allowing citizens to defend themselves against hostile attacks; Democrats however are accused of advocating for unrestricted abortion rights regardless of gestational stage or reason behind it.

The critics argue that while Republicans prioritize individual accountability and self-reliance, Democrats purportedly aim to redistribute resources in favor of those less privileged. Democrats advocate for open border policies potentially exposing children migrants to harmful situations while calling for acceptance of fluid gender norms — an issue pivotally dividing Democrats from those emphasizing religious liberty and free speech as paramount human rights. One layer deeper into family ethics reveals bi-partisan standpoints just as contrasting; Christians largely argue for parental autonomy in rearing children, whereas the opposing side is alleged to propel a leftist indoctrination regime through public school systems.

Every election season we consistently hear advocates lobbying for Democrats and Republicans to unite under the banner of Christ. But holding a set of progressive beliefs or voting for someone promoting them seems fundamentally at odds with adhering to a biblical worldview, according to some religious commentators. Unity is not permissible where progression compromises explicit Christian orthodoxy – they should be separated (1 Corinthians 5:13).
