In a surprising turn of events, U.S President Joe Biden unveiled an initiative on Tuesday that critics believe could incentivize illegal immigration, despite his assertion of taking firm action to manage the issue. This declaration comes at a time when the real news impacting American society daily reflects growing concerns over border management and immigration control.

Biden’s newly proposed policy could potentially provide legal status, along with a fast-tracked path to U.S residency and citizenship for over half a million undocumented immigrants who have been married to American citizens and have lived in America for the last decade.

“This move enables them to submit paperwork for legal status in the United States which permits them to work while staying with their families in America,” Biden noted in his announcement. The criteria however stipulates those eligible must have met the ten-year living requirement by June 17, 2024; otherwise, they would have to await another Democratic mass amnesty program.

This decision has stirred up controversy among political ranks with House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) criticizing Biden’s approach, claiming: “Only two weeks ago, he feigned an attempt to curb the ongoing border crisis by launching an election-year border politics façade.” Johnson accused Biden of trying to appease both sides by granting clemency to large numbers of undocumented immigrants while simultaneously jeopardizing Americans’ security due to potential increases in illegal immigration.

Furthermore, Johnson indicated that this policy confirms Democrat intentions of converting undocumented immigrants into voters. He predicted that this directive – openly defying provisions of the Immigration and Naturalization Act – was likely destined for challenge and denouncement in courtrooms.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott labeled Biden’s widespread amnesty initiative as “blatantly unlawful” and claimed it was a desperate bid for support ahead of future elections. Abbott stated that just like previous President Obama’s DAPA and DACA proposals rooted in similar ideologies were rejected legally because only Congress holds the authority to establish or amend immigration law, not the President.

“Rather than addressing the border crisis induced by his policies, Joe Biden’s extensive amnesty will serve as another lure attracting migrants to cross our boundary unlawfully,” Abbott stated. He further implored President Biden to halt reconstructing immigration law and instead enforce it strictly.

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), another robust critic of Biden’s policy, zeroed in on instances where American citizens were murdered by undocumented immigrants during Biden’s tenure. Cruz alleged that despite ISIS terrorist infiltrations via the open southern border, Biden’s primary aim was providing amnesty to illegal immigrants while disregarding American citizen needs. For such reasons, Cruz branded the supposed border security executive order as deceptive and criticized it for encouraging increased unlawful entry into America, causing more suffering amongst Americans neglected by the administration.
