In a recent discussion, eminent Daily Wire Editor, Ben Shapiro associated the public actions of English singer Sam Smith (who identifies as non-binary) to inevitably earning votes for Donald Trump. Sharing his perspective on “The Ben Shapiro Show”, he expressed surprise and disapproval over Smith’s appearance and performance at the Vivienne Westwood Fall 2024 show.

Shapiro humorously compared Smith’s attire to a bizarre mixture of elements from Mad Max, Braveheart, and an outfit seemingly confused about gender. He further detailed that Smith wore a half-concealing wig and kilt-inspired clothing, complete with high plaid socks and boots typically worn by women.

Commenting on the transformation of Sam Smith from being what he labeled a “normal looking gay dude” to adopting a nonbinary identity, Shapiro used terms such as “freak show” for description. He drew another witticism around this situation stating that it was as if they were living through scenes from the Hunger Games film series. He questioned why someone like Sam would be considered a pop culture icon.

Shapiro emphasized his view that celebrities like Sam Smith inadvertently encourage ordinary Americans to support Trump due to their disillusionment with those who excessively praise unconventional artistic presentations. According to him, people perceive these displays as misguided attempts at challenging pre-existing gender norms and barriers which they view very negatively.

Shapiro extended his argument into debating whether human sex is binary or not. Referring to a UK Telegraph poll where only 58% of 200 scientists agreed on the binary nature of sex, he critically dismissed those who disagreed as propagandists rather than true scientists. Using an analogy involving individuals born with eight toes, he argued that exceptions do not negate generally accepted standards.

Addressing the term ‘gender’, Shapiro outrightly deemed it meaningless if it simply represents masculine or feminine behavioral categories in society. Such categories did maintain balance according to him otherwise there would be no poles within which personalities can function.

In conclusion, Shapiro expressed disappointment in scientists for yielding to public pressures. He suggested that this submission was evident during the COVID pandemic and within the ongoing debates around transgender issues. According to him, such behavior has led to an erosion of trust in the scientific community which was otherwise not fragmented some 20 years ago.
