Renowned recording artist, Lady Gaga, found herself in the midst of controversy for endorsing trans activist Dylan Mulvaney on International Women’s Day. The pop star posted several images and a video with Dylan Mulvaney, who identifies as a transgender woman. Lady Gaga can be heard saying in the video, “I’m putting you on my vision board, for life,” with Mulvaney responding affectionately, “I love you.” She repeats again, “Put this on your vision board”.

Positioned against the backdrop of what appeared to be a photo shoot for Haus Labs and pharmaceutical company Clinuvel, Gaga’s posts attracted backlash from some followers for featuring a trans woman on a day solely devoted to celebrating women.

Several comments echoed similar sentiments of disapproval; one person wrote: “Isn’t womens day for women? Lol just another case of some.. creep male trying to take one more thing from women”. Another stated “This is so degrading to REAL women,” whille yet another comment read: “Why’s Dylan representing. He’s ‘NOT’ a woman. What an insult to us ‘REAL’ women. Quit invading our territory.”

Lady Gaga (Stefani Germanotta), well known as an LGBTQ advocate for many years, has previously shared her respect and commitment towards supporting the gay community in various interviews. In 2017 she told Out Magazine that it was because of the gay community she had achieved her standing in the entertainment industry today. She openly expressed her intent to infuse mainstream culture with aspects of gay culture.

In contrast, Dylan Mulvaney gained recognition after creating and starring in the TikTok series called “Days of Girlhood” which chronicled his transition journey from male to female.

Mulvaney also hit nationwide headlines after participating in an advertisement campaign for beer brand Bud Light. It’s worth noting that this partnership reportedly led to substantial revenue loss for parent company Anheuser-Busch, following conservative-led boycotts over its controversial association with Mulvaney.
