In a recent development that has been making headlines, Anita Dunn, former top advisor to President Biden and acting White House Communications Director for Obama, has voiced her dissatisfaction over how leading Democrats reacted to Biden’s performance in the June debate. Dunn reallocated her services to a Political Action Committee (PAC) supporting Kamala Harris’s campaign subsequent to Biden calling it quits on his reelection bid.

Dunn made clear her viewpoint largely revolved around the democrat leadership deciding Biden’s fate rather than Trump or the democratic voters who voted substantially in favor of him. Leading personalities including Pelosi, Schumer, Barack Obama and Jeffries were identified as orchestrating this sideline coup by Dunn. While agreeing with the existence of such power play, Dunn interestingly contended that despite general opinion otherwise, Biden was not particularly lacklustre during the debate.

“What did change [after the debate], it was 24 days of unremitting negative, horrible attacks on Joe Biden,” she disclosed. On being asked who these attackers were, Dunn singled out not just the press but also members from within his party.

A key personality accused by Dunn of undermining Biden is Nancy Pelosi. She stated: “Clearly there were leaders of the party who decided to go ahead and go very public”. She classified Pelosi speaking out twice after the debates on TV as clear illustration of that fact.

Dunn went on further criticizing shortcomings within Democratic party leadership without mincing words stating “The task in front of us is to win this election and to not let Donald Trump become president again and to win the House of Representatives, which had certain leaders in 2022 done a slightly better job, maybe we would control today but we don’t”.

This conflict spices up an already strained situation within the inner circles of camp Biden post-debate debacle as reported by NBC News. This friction compounded with suggestions from Dunn about Hunter Biden maintaining a low profile inviting infighting about whether she should be asked to step down.

This entire narrative arouses questions about the efficacy of Dunn being an ally for Harris’s campaign after her blatant criticism against the very democratic leaders whose support Kamala would be heavily relying upon. It only further adds to the complications already plaguing this emerging campaign and puts a subsequent strain on the internal equilibrium within Democratic party.
