Former Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger, who now serves as a commentator for CNN, continues to show his unease with the political dominance of former President Donald Trump. In a recent segment of “Anderson Cooper 360º,” Kinzinger expressed disappointment over South Carolina Republican Sen. Tim Scott’s strong endorsement of Trump.

Kinzinger’s discomfiture was particularly heightened as he had always held Scott in high regard – for his decency and concern for character. He felt that by choosing politics over character, Scott had joined many others who were prioritizing their careers.

Sen. Tim Scott was appointed to the Senate by Nikki Haley, an appointment that launched him into national prominence and subsequently led to a presidential campaign which, unfortunately, failed. Rather than waiting until after the New Hampshire primaries to offer his endorsement to another candidate – affording Haley possibly an opportunity to shine – Scott gave his endorsement early on, further cementing the armor of invincibility around Trump.

Kinzinger often critiques Trump publically and, in this instance opined that despite portraying an image of strength and fearless leadership, Trump essentially is a “masterful victim” – appearing strong while harboring fear within himself. This facade masterfully coerces people like Tim Scott into supporting him rather hastily.

In terms of politics though, it must be noted that endorsements do not have significant bearing on a candidate’s performance or victory chances as we might assume.

Although he understands this aspect of politics, Kinzger admitted feeling blue about something else: the momentum Trump continues to gain despite present circumstances. It paints a picture that is “pretty disheartening” according to Kinzinger.

The overarching question regarding this developing story is whether all factions within GOP will align around trump when he inevitably triumphs in winning the 2024 GOP presidential nomination? Considering factors such as severe mismanagement by the Biden administration and continuous lurch leftward by the Democrat Party, it seems likely that they would rally behind Trump.

The story could take a different turn if Biden somehow fails to reach the Democrat National Convention in August, allowing someone like Gavin Newsom or Michelle Obama to be nominated.
