In a bid to introduce transformative policy changes at the U.S.-Mexico border, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has put forth some strong demands. Tomorrow, he is slated to meet with President Joe Biden and other high-profile leaders on Capitol Hill.

Having recently returned from his visit to the border, Johnson has repeatedly reiterated that securing further aid and funding for Ukraine and Israel cannot be detached from implementing policy alterations geared towards strengthening the border security.

In a tweet, Johnson expressed these sentiments directly: “Today I will tell President Biden directly: House Republicans are demanding transformative policy change to secure the border. The American people deserve nothing less.”

Adding further strength to these words, in an uploaded video Johnson stressed on the urgency of introducing tangible substantive policy reforms. “We’re not playing politics with this,” he asserted seriously. “We’re demanding real, transformative policy change because that’s what the American people need, deserve — and what they’re also demanding. House Republicans stand solidly on this ground and I intend to communicate this assertion to the president today.”

According to him, since assuming his position as ‘speaker’, he has consistently been vocal about such issues. Reinforcing the severity of these issues impacting diverse aspects of society including public health and safety measures.

He raised concern over fentanyl being cited as a leading cause of death for Americans within 18-49 age group. Moreover, he pointed out instances of human trafficking, particularly sex trafficking minors necessitates a need for immediate reformative policies.

Furthermore, reports suggest that cartels at the border are cashing in billions through human trafficking into America. While shedding light on this issue during a discussion with CNN anchor Jake Tapper he highlighted an alarming figure stating “sixty to seventy percent of individuals trespassing Eagle Pass –which is currently viewed as main funnel in—are typically single adult males between 18-40 ages.”

Contrary to popular belief these trespassers aren’t ‘huddled families seeking asylum’, many of them seem to harbor destructive intentions.
