Since its inception, the conflict between Israel and Hamas has brought about immeasurable tragedy. The violence, which has brutally victimized thousands in Israel and Gaza, continues to escalate, resulting in a rising death toll. Furthermore, the terrorist group that is causing chaos in the Middle East poses not only a threat to Israel but also to any of Israel’s allies. In recent times, experts have warned that the ongoing turmoil triggered by the Israel-Hamas strife could ignite a wide-scale war throughout the Middle East region.

Incidents termed as ‘flashpoints’ have been reported since October 7th. These include missile attacks by Houthis, an Iranian-backed militant group into the Red Sea. American bases positioned in the Middle East have found themselves under attack along with an increase in aggression towards Northern Israel by Lebanon’s Iranian-backed militia Hezbollah. As these conflicts rage on and America’s southern border remains vulnerable, terrorist threats continue their sharp rise.

Paul Salem of the renowned think tank Middle East Institute noted that “the war has already extended into much of the Middle East.” He added his concerns that without decisive action, there might be no reversal of this course prompting escalated conflict across more regions over time.

Adding a firsthand perspective was Sam Brownback, former U.S. ambassador-at-large for international religious freedom who visited the battle-torn Gaza border just last month.

He traveled alongside Ken Blackwell from Family Research Council and other evangelical Christian leaders to meet hostage families as well as Israeli military officials. Recounting his experiences on ‘Washington Watch’, he stated it was unlike his previous nine trips to Israel due to high tension situations such drawing missile attacks during casual lunches etc.

Despite bearing witness to such terrifying scenarios that ordinary Israelis endure every day; Brownback criticized Biden administration’s insistence on pursuing a two-state solution while keeping its borders exposed to terrorists. Alarmed at negotiating solutions with terror groups bent on completely annihilating their adversaries; he emphasized on the need for zero-tolerance policy towards any form of such terror.

Despite calls urging Israel to temper its response continue, real fears prevail about another potential Jewish genocide reminiscent of Hitler’s era as barbarism still lurks on Israeli borders.

As the situation worsens, Brownback argues that the root of the problem stems from Iran—the nerve center providing funding and support to Hamas. A significant shift in the balance won’t occur until pressure is exerted upon Iran and its leadership changed, he claimed.

Rounding off their conversation, both Perkins and Brownback agreed that elections have consequences and raised concerns about potential global threat if left unchecked. They called upon active voices keeping it primacy before American people and international community supporting their stand against terrorism.

As responsible consumers of trusted news, nested with a Christian worldview, a continued awareness of these real-news bites from zones of conflict becomes integral in comprehending what might be chilling prospects for our collective peace.
