In a recent development, an outspoken black pastor from Chicago has vociferously criticized Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban’s full-throated endorsement of DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) policies. The pastor labeled Cuban’s stance as “deeply flawed” and condemned DEI policies as a “poisonous ideology.”

The saga unfolded when Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk relayed his beliefs on Twitter saying, “Discrimination on the basis of race, which DEI does, is literally the definition of racism.” Cuban swiftly responded to this by highlighting how individuals of various races are persistently excluded from hiring considerations.

Pastor Corey Brooks who heads one of Chicago’s most challenging neighborhoods on the South Side took umbrage at Cuban’s defense of DEI. He stated it didn’t have any beneficial impact on his community, directly contradicting its proclaimed intentions.

Brooks commented laughingly on people attributing DEI policies to his community with little understanding or knowledge about it. This claim hinted towards the implication that these assertations represented the US as systemically racist—an idea he disagreed with.

Regrettably for the optimistic notion originally driving affirmative action—the focus shifted from nurturing growth to favoring certain races—a scenario developed by university presidents eager for increased diversity among their ranks. Concurrently, liberal policies were saturating their communities since 1960s.

“Instead of absorbing freedom and responsibility,” Pastor Brooks recalls sadly,” many fell prey to a gripping culture of dependency.” He speaks of a cycle of societal and governmental reliance—an environment where the American Dream seems impossible.

In these challenging circumstances, he works tirelessly on the ground to change the status quo. His ongoing projects involve overseeing community center construction after years of struggle and helping local students secure prestigious fellowships like those offered by NASA.

Brooks resolutely preaches basic American principles to his youths, such as punctuality, accountability, respectfulness, financial planning for the future, resilience among others. Therefore, it was surprising to him hearing DEI proponents labeling key attributes like merit and timeliness as affiliations to white supremacy—further perpetuating this destructive dependency culture.

Brooks expressed his commitment to fostering individuals’ growth until the mere concept of leveraging race would insult their well-earned integrity. Despite hardships and long odds ahead, he is optimistic about his mission and believes that this resolute defiance against false ideological comforts gives them the best shot at offering these young Americans a promising future—thus cultivating profound talent pools within his community.
