Over the past couple of weeks, the Southeast region has been battered by the severe impacts of Hurricane Helene creating an immense amount of damage throughout several areas. Numerous regions are left grappling with wind damage and the detrimental consequences of flooding. The path to recovery for these places seems prolonged taking weeks or perhaps even months to restore normality.

During a Sunday evening commute to a small church group, crossing over the Alcovy River bridge showcased a river level higher than has been seen for some time. While this is an evident sign of impact, it’s understood that many places nearby are suffering more significantly in comparison. Our prayers at this time extend to everyone coping with Helene’s aftermath.

The calamities don’t stop at Hurricane Helene; metro Atlanta concurrently faces problems such as gas leaks, water main malfunctions, and even a chemical plant fire, leading many to question who’s steering the helm during these troubling times.

In moments like these, we draw comfort from reminders ingrained in God’s Word that He is always in control. A passage from Isaiah 43:1-3a serves as one such comforting reminder particularly during challenging times:

“In essence it states ‘Don’t be afraid, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters and great trouble, I will be with you… For I am the Lord your God, your Savior’.”

Following Helene’s devastation, Lucy Kemp (daughter to Governor Brian Kemp) wrote a devotion echoing this verse emphasizing that God is indeed our refuge during times of stormy trials — both physical and metaphorical – promising His guidance through tough times.

Isaiah 41:10 is another referenced verse reassuring us not to fear stating “for I am with you; do not dismayed for I am your God…”

Our World has always been prone to dangers and everyday difficulties yet we remain uplifted knowing we aren’t alone. God, our sovereign protector is in control and continues to care for his people.

Remember the words passed on by Jesus to His disciples before His crucifixion: “I have told you all this so that you may find peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart because I’ve overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

In the darkest moments of adversity, remembering we are held in the hands of the God Who conquered death, hell and purgatory provides solace in face of all odds.

In this era where ‘Real News’ with a ‘Christian Worldview’ is critical, rest assured that we aim to provide our readers with ‘Trusted News’. Our resilience remains unwavered even as our communities grapple with storms both physical and metaphorical.
