In a breaking revelation, it has been discovered that seven school districts in Arizona have policies directing staff to withhold students’ transgender identity from their families. This information was recently obtained by Parents Defending Education, a trusted defender of parental rights. The organization has kept an extensive record of schools nationwide that have issued guidance to hide a student’s transgender status from their parents, contributing significant insights into real news and education policy.

Michele Exner, Senior Adviser at Parents Defending Education, described these policies as deeply troubling and offensive. As caregivers and legal guardians, parents have the right to be fully informed about aspects shaping their children’s upbringing. It is out of place for schools to arbitrarily decide what information should be withheld from parents.

Exner further pointed out that such practices not only betray a parent’s trust but also pose potential harm to the safety and fairness among female students within these institutions. According to a CRC Research poll conducted in March, three-fourths of registered voters agreed that schools should never assist students in changing their gender identity without parental consent. Additionally, 71% opposed schools withholding any information about a child’s gender identity from their parents.

Among the implicated districts is the Amphitheatre Public School district in Tucson which has trained its staff based on guidelines stating they are not obligated to disclose specific information regarding student’s gender identities proactively. While encouraging or coercing minors into hiding information from parents could invite penalties for employees outside law enforcement organizations, there are no regulations against voluntarily concealing such data.

The Tempe Union High School District has adopted similar policies where it uses “gender support plans” that facilitate social transitions undertaken by students at school- changes concerning names pronouns and clothing preference- without considering parental awareness or consent levels into consideration.

Moreover, other implicated districts include Washington Elementary School District in Maricopa County instructing staff through its ‘Gender Support Plan’ not to advertise confidential details of a student’s transgender or gender identity status without the student’s consent.

Phoenix-based Cartwright School District ensures that decisions involving parental conversations about a child’s LGBTQ identity must be strategized delicately, factoring in the welfare and consent of the students. This foresight is seen to recognize—’the urgency and timing of their transition,’ guiding staff to encompass gender ideology principles in their curriculums while tactfully abstaining from collective address based on sexual categorization.

Other implicated school districts approach the matter similarly, with some even suggesting legal counsel sessions if parents don’t support their children’s alternate gender identification. The underlying objective of these schools seems to be an effort to respect students’ rights over their preferred gender pronouns despite risking potential damage to relationships between parents and their children due to withheld information concerning sensitive issues such as these.

Parents Defending Education founder Nicole Neily criticizes these policies as actively detrimental factors disrupting parent-child relationships across board, encouraging duplicity and eliciting mistrust among families.
