In a comprehensive post delivered late on Monday night, Senator JD Vance (R-OH) struck out at the media and the Democratic Party for their rhetoric before, and in response to, a second attempt on the life of former President Donald Trump during the recent weekend.

After law enforcement authorities in Florida apprehended 58-year-old Ryan Routh, known to be a Democrat contributor with a criminal past that prevents him from legally owning firearms, Vance voiced his concern. Reportedly hiding out on Trump International Golf Course West Palm Beach for over 12 hours armed with an AK-17, Routh was arrested on Sunday.

Vance, who operates as Trump’s vice presidential running mate, claimed that the discourse coming from the political left is spiraling “out of control.” As evidence, he harkens back to an incident where such rhetoric lead to an extremist leftist opening fire at Republican members of Congress during a baseball practice event.

Specifically highlighting comments made by Kamala Harris saying that ‘Democracy was on the line’ against Trump; Vance points out that this same language was used by gunman Routh. In addition to having a truck adorned with Harris’s bumper sticker and obsession over Ukraine’s fight for democracy and skewed perceptions about the Russia-Ukraine war, only drives home Routh’s position more clearly. It is interesting to note that he has donated 19 times to Democratic causes and never once towards their Republican counterparts.

Vance brings into question how Democrats or their media allies would react if someone who had contributed 19 times towards Republican causes tried attacking a Democratic official. He accuses media outlets like NBC News and LA Times of downplaying what could easily have been a far graver incident by referring it as just another golf club episode targeting Trump.

This double standard extends into other territories too as seen when Vance drew attention to threats of bombs being called into Springfield Ohio following reports from residents involving issues tied up with immigrants. Despite the fact that both he and Trump had continually condemned such threats, mainstream media was quick to point fingers at them.

There’s a running thread of bias here. Comments from allies of Harris calling for Trump’s elimination are played down by these same media outfits who make arguments that Trump deserved to be shot. Referencing the numerous inflammatory comments made in past years by Democrats and various media against Trump seems to reveal a pattern of unfair treatment.

Vance also pointed out the media’s tendency to bury stories they did not like, including the impact on American citizens through increased car accidents, housing affordability issues, evictions, overcrowded hospitals and rising disease rates following the migration of tens of thousands of Haitians to Springfield.

To set things right, Vance plans on vigorously defending freedom of speech over the next seven weeks as he considers this fundamental rights as a tool capable of resisting political violence. Accepting censorship is equivalent to welcoming violence done in its name. The only sure-fire way to have permanent censorship would involve using drastic measures leading up to taking human lives—which is totally unacceptable.
