In a shocking incident on Tuesday, Joan Onyemaechi, also known as Ada Anioma, a respected Christian woman and the wife of Delta state’s Attorney General Peter Mrakpor was forcefully taken from her Bible study at the King Jesus and I Church in Asaba. Sadly, this terrifying event also saw the death of her driver and a policeman.

Onyemaechi isn’t just an exceptional Christian woman with a strong Christian worldview; she is also a former representative in the federal House of Representatives and had served as Commissioner for Technical Education until her resignation earlier this year. Her husband, Peter Mrakpor, holds high-ranking positions in the state government as well—he serves both as the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice.

The eyewitness accounts provided by Kenneth Ohen and Austin Okoronko, fellow believers who happened to be present during that dreaded Bible study session reveal that these armed assailants showed no mercy. Prior to abducting Joan Onyemaechi, they shot down her security personnel right in front of everyone. The chaotic incident resulted in other casualties too: another police officer reportedly wounded along with one civilian.

This event instilled fear among church members leading to pandemonium within the church compound. However, despite such chaos unfolding before them, everyone could agree upon one thing—this act was utterly disgraceful.

As real news faithful to reporting trusted news remains scarce today; our commitment remains unchanged—to expose these heinous acts committed against those practicing their faiths without any due cause or provocation.

Unfortunately, this abduction comes without clear motives—the family has not received any ransom demands yet according to reports. Bright Edafe, spokesperson for Delta State Police Command confirmed news about this tragic incident while making an appeal for calmness amidst all residents of Delta state.

However, grave incidents like this are not unprecedented in Nigeria’s chronicles—Fulani herdsmen were responsible for the murder of two Christians and abduction of others in the Delta state’s Toru-Angiama village in January 2023. Nigeria’s despicable track record for being unsafe for Christians is well-documented—ranking at an alarming sixth position according to Open Doors World Watch List 2024 report.

Nigeria wears the crown as the deadliest place for Christians with 4,118 believers killed for their faith between October 1, 2022, and September 30, 2023. Furthermore, news about kidnappings is not something new—Nigeria topped other nations with a staggering figure of about 3,300 recorded abductions of Christians. The total number of attacks on Christian-oriented buildings such as churches, hospitals, schools, and graveyards stood at a high count of 750—the third highest rank globally.

As we strive to propagate real news and provide trusted news from a Christian worldview; our focus will also remain on pressing issues that continue to impact believers around globe—we persistently pray for calmness to be restored back into our world.
