The Israel-Hamas conflict continues unabated as senior Hamas official, Osama Hamdan, shocks the international community by “promising” a forthcoming “war of liberation” against Israel in an interview with Lebanese media. This anticipated scale of the impending violence is purportedly larger than that witnessed during the tragic events of October 7th.

When asked if he regretted initiating those destructive events on October 7th, Hamdan’s response was unfettered; he defended his organization’s actions and demonstrated no remorse for their severe impact on both Israeli citizens and Palestinian people alike.

He ignored the significant casualties dealt to innocent lives – around 1,400 Israeli men, women and children killed by his organization according to reports. His apparent disregard for these figures extends to even the number of Palestinians killed so far due to Israel’s military response – estimated at over 10,000 (Reuters). Islamist terrorist groups like Hamas have shown time and time again they are prepared to sacrifice their own people in pursuit of radical goals.

Promised of more impending assault against Israel post-prisoner releases from Israeli prisons further characterize Hamdan’s defiant stance. Adding uncertainty is his vague assertion that this proposed large-scale attack isn’t far from actualising.

Despite getting battered militarily by IDF’s advanced military hardware, Hamdan seemed adamant about launching a larger attack soon. Such belief raises questions regarding the practicality behind this decision – considering whether it would not just provoke an even graver backlash from Israel.

Interestingly though, it seems that perhaps Hamas might not be strategizing purely from a military standpoint. Despite low ranks committing barbaric acts with distressing frequency, Hamas leadership cognizantly understands global dynamics. They see pro-Palestinian demonstrations unfolding across continents such as America and Europe and perceive growing pressure on Israel to restrain its military responses in Gaza being applied by Joe Biden’s administration.

The question remains why Western powers empathize with Hamas despite its persistent hostility against Israel. “Hamas relies on useful Western idiots,” states political commentator Victor Davis Hansen, contending that Hamas manipulates Western guilt to gain support, causing significant harm to the Palestinian cause and Middle Eastern migration ideas, more than any time since 9/11.

The ramifications of such future conflict could endanger world peace and must not be stripped away from global attention.
