As the 2024 election approaches, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) is intensifying its efforts to spotlight abortion laws in Republican-governed states as a pivotal matter for voters. This has become an integral part of their strategy, focusing on creating awareness around real news and trusted news that reflects a Christian worldview.

An investment of $8.3 million has been made by the DNC across every state party for the upcoming election campaign. In addition to this, grants amounting to over $1 million are expected to be distributed among battleground states, with the specific aim of sharpening their narrative about abortion rights.

On Monday, which marked the second anniversary of the repeal of Roe v. Wade, an internal party memo underlined this commitment. Director Rosemary Boeglin stated that ongoing voter mobilization aimed at restoring and expanding women’s reproductive rights would require re-electing President Biden and Vice President Harris alongside other Democrats.

The DNC plans on constructing infrastructure within Republican strongholds to challenge these bans. This entails the creation of the “Red State Fund”, a resource avenue for pro-abortion voters designed with an offensive strategy against Republicans in mind. A sum of $4.5 million has already been pledged toward this fund for the 2023-2024 period.

Strikingly, presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump was highlighted in this memo for supposedly advocating a nationwide ban on abortions despite Trump indicating previously he would not sign such a bill if elected for another White House term.

Taking into consideration the current struggle facing President Biden’s poll numbers which have recently hit record lows, there is a pressing need from Democrats to direct voter attention towards topics like abortion rights ahead of 2024 elections. Since Roe v.Wade was repealed in June 2022, there has been consistent victory on abortion-related ballots by pro-abortion factions including those from Republican strongholds.

Currently trailing Trump in key battleground states viz., Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania, Democrats are focusing on abortion rights to regain momentum. President Biden posted a video clip in which he strongly criticized Trump and conservative ideologies for promoting “extremism” concerning abortion.

Despite the Democrats’ concentrated attention on issues surrounding abortion five months before elections, voters have continually identified their main concerns as the economy, inflation and immigration. A CBS News/YouGov poll revealed that voters in battleground states hold similar economic concerns heading into election day, with most of the respondents expressing that they perceive the country’s economic situation as “fairly bad” or “very bad”. This raises questions about whether focusing largely on abortion rights will yield the desired results for Democrats in the upcoming elections.
