This initiative is dedicated to commemorating the second anniversary of the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization ruling wherein the Supreme Court effectively overturned Roe v. Wade.

This significant effort is spearheaded by Senator Marco Rubio, R-Fla., and supported by numerous other Republican senators. These include Mike Lee of Utah, Tommy Tuberville and Katie Britt of Alabama, James Lankford of Oklahoma, Ted Budd of North Carolina, and Steve Daines of Montana.

In tandem with these proceedings in Senate chambers, Rep. Chris Smith R-N.J., will be introducing equivalent legislation within the House. Expressing his firm belief on protecting life’s sanctity was Sen. Rubio who stated that this anniversary serves not only to commemorate monumental strides made by pro-life advocates but also reaffirms their commitment towards supporting families as well as safeguarding unborn lives.

Under this proposed resolution, the Senate aims to celebrate two years since this landmark ruling came into effect acknowledging “the millions of lives that will be saved as a result.” Furthermore, it commits to “protecting the unalienable right to life” and champion for expectant mothers and their children along with guarding unborn lives against lethal violence.

The Supreme Court overturned its 1973 ruling in Roe through an epoch-making 5-4 ruling on June 24th, 2022. The overturn was carried out through a seminal judgment issued recently – Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization – which did not surprise either party involved in discussions surrounding abortion rights due directly due to a leak from Justice Samuel Alito’s draft majority opinion on May 2, 2022, indicating that Roe would be overturned. This leak led to widespread protests outside the homes of some Supreme Court justices and eventuated in an assassination attempt on Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Nicholas John Roske was arrested near Justice Kavanaugh’s home in June 2022 following the leaked opinion convincing him to make an assassination attempt. Police discovered a series of weapons and tools meant for burglary on him.

Consequently, conservatives openly criticized local and federal prosecutors for their failure to enforce laws against intimidation of federal judges. Following the leak, pro-abortion group Ruth Sent Us posted information about justices’ residences online and encouraged protesters to visit their homes.
