In the latest real news from Capitol Hill, 15 top officials from the Biden administration have been subpoenaed by House Republicans. This move is born out of concerns that the administration may be formulating a partisan “scheme” with potential fallout favoring Democrats in the impending 2024 election.

The instigator of this development, House Administration Committee Chairman Bryan Steil (R-WI), issued these subpoenas seeking documentation on strategies formulated as a reaction to an executive order issued by President Joe Biden. This directive was primarily aimed at encouraging federal agencies’ heads to devise plans that would uplift voter registration and participation.

Every agency was urged to formulate their individual “strategic plans”, tailor-made solutions for spurring voting and voter turnout within their respective sectors. However, Chairman Steil has voiced strong objections against this initiative stating, “While elections are inherently partisan, our election administration ought never to be. The inundation of federal employees from the Biden Administration into election administration sites potentially compromises election integrity and consequently erodes Americans’ confidence.”

He went further on his condemnation of this order saying, “This Executive Order is just another ploy used by the Biden Administration to rig the system ahead of 2024.” Further amplifying his commitment to provide transparency and accountability regarding this issue, Congressman Steil stated that his aim is not to allow taxpayer money being used for promoting partisan activities.

Among those subpoenaed are several top-notch departments such as Commerce Department, Homeland Security, Defense Department, Justice Department, Education Department, Energy Department alongside others like Health and Human Services or Office of Management and Budget among others.

In order to inform lawmakers contemplating repealing Biden’s order via legislation about its precise implications; Congressman Steil has requested detailed plans from each agency involved. The deadline set for all agencies to respond with their preparations stands at June 26.

Chairman Steil gave insight into his intentions with a letter stating, “As the Committee investigates this issue further, strategic plans alongside other requested documents will provide invaluable insight into the need for any additional legislation to ensure the NRA does not enable executive branch agencies concentrating on voter registration.”

Other concerns were aired about steps already taken by some agencies in implementing Biden’s order. “Over recent months, few agencies have taken actions presumably influenced by their strategic plans. Instances include the Department of Education’s new federal work-study requisites and a voter registration agreement inked by the Small Business Administration with Michigan,” he cited.

Last month witnessed additional subpoenas being issued by the House Committee on Small Business against the Small Business Administration (SBA). This came as a reaction to announced collaboration between the SBA and Michigan state government for registering voters. The alleged partisan efforts that this collaboration might unfold has cast suspicion around it and consequently, led to these actions.
