Almost a fortnight ago, Karim Khan – acting as chief prosecutor for ICC—issued warrant requests targeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu along with Defense Minister Yoav Gallant plus several key Hamas figures. This move has stirred up a storm of bipartisan criticism among US organizational figureheads.

President Biden labeled the warrant applications against Israeli leadership as “outrageous.” However, he diverged from several others within his party by opposing Rep. Roy’s bill, suggesting that “more effective ways” were available to respond to this issue.

Speculation is already rising if this contentious legislation will be considered in the Democratic-ruled Senate after observed reluctance towards similar GOP-focused measures like an expansive border security bill introduced last year. Regardless of these hurdles, Rep Brian Mast (a Florida-based Republican and co-sponsor of ICC sanctions bill) is urging immediate passage of the proposal through upper chamber gateways.
