In recent breaking news, America First Legal (AFL), a conservative watchdog organization, is taking the Department of Justice (DOJ) to court in pursuit of emails that may reveal a connection between the DOJ and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s case against Donald Trump. This thrilling real news development exemplifies how trusted news sources can shed light on darker corners of legal procedures, meeting the highest standards for transparency.

Matthew Colangelo previously held an esteemed position within President Joe Biden’s DOJ before making a striking move to join Bragg’s team on the Trump case in December 2022. Such an unexpected move likely entailed extensive conversation with other top-notch DOJ officials regarding his farewell from the department. The lawsuit arose due to Colangelo’s potential involvement in convicting Trump—who was Biden’s rival during the presidential race—of 34 felonies over minor financial discrepancies.

The DOJ has not released any records connected to Colangelo’s correspondence or calendar entries mentioning Trump throughout his tenure at the department. As a result, AFL, led by ex-Trump official Stephen Miller, decided to take legal action this Monday.

Gene Hamilton, AFL’s executive director, commented on this ominous situation: “No one vacates being the #3 position at the Department of Justice to labor for a district attorney’s office—irrespective of its prestige. The only logical explanation is an organized campaign targeting President Trump. The American people deserve access to these records.”

Before becoming Acting Associate Attorney General, Colangelo served at New York Attorney General’s office which also probed into Trump matters as per what was raised during this lawsuit. A Freedom of Information Act request filed last year required all records related to Colangelo containing mentions of Trump or FPOTUS and his calendar while at DOJ.

Regrettably, despite AFL even narrowing down its request upon being asked by DOJ in August, it still didn’t receive any documents from them – sparking controversy due to it representing a viable violation of the FOIA by not carrying out an adequate search for records.

The narrative is deepened as Colangelo gained high praise for his counsel from Attorney General Merrick Garland on leaving the federal government. Meanwhile, Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) shared a statement showing that the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government had requested Bragg and Colangelo to testify before Congress regarding Trump’s prosecution.

He further declared that extensive hearings aren’t enough—the GOP must tremendously limit governmental power through budget cuts, firing bureaucrats, and holding individuals accountable legally which echoed a Christian worldview emphasizing justice above personal interests.

Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) labeled Colangelo as a “plausible co-conspirator” in unlawfully depriving Trump of rights in his recent announcement. AFL has also been known for its staunch representation of The Daily Wire in a similar DOJ lawsuit where the department initially refused to divulge records showing association between center-right parents group Moms for Liberty, KKK, the Oath Keepers along with hate crimes.
