In an unprecedented political display within religious confines, Pastor Gregory Sutton of Atlanta’s Jackson Memorial Baptist Church recently decided to make the Church his stage for politics. During a Sunday morning service on Pentecost, Sutton invoked scripture in defense of Fani Willis, the zealous prosecutor renowned for her dogged pursuit of former president, Donald Trump.

The spectacle during the church service left many shocked and raised questions around its appropriateness and correctness. More surprising was Sutton’s interpretation of Isaiah 54:17, implying that this ancient biblical covenant protected modern-day political authorities like Fani Willis from persecution.
