On a recent Thursday at a Capitol Hill event, GOP Senators Rand Paul and JD Vance expressed their concern that leaders from both sides of the aisle have not taken heed of America’s past foreign policy mistakes. In particular, they critiqued the stance of their party leader, the Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

In addition to China, Saudi Arabia was another nation discussed by Paul who has strong reservations about severing trade connections with this predominantly Muslim country while disagreeing with neoconservative colleagues on this point as well.

While categorically stating that he wouldn’t consent to selling arms to Saudi Arabia, Paul also added that he is against laying embargoes and halting commercial transactions with these foreign nations – proposing that isolationism aligns more closely with neoconservatives’ attitudes.

In their conversations, both Paul and Vance utilised the terms “neoconservatives” or “neocons” widely, implying lawmakers in Washington supported the continual arming of Ukraine amidst its defense against Russian aggression.

Making a critical distinction between foreign commitments to Israel and Ukraine, Vance strongly held that it was not in America’s interest to persistently fund a seemingly unending conflict such as the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

According to the Ohio Republican, a significant reason why Americans deeply care about Israel is because the U.S. predominantly remains a Christian country. Furthermore, he criticized neoconservative foreign-intervention policies, claiming that they indirectly led to an expansion of Iran proxies within the Middle East as well as orchestrated a genocide against Christians – emphasizing this with his experience as an Iraq War veteran.
